CRYOBIOLOGY
From the Greek words cryo: cold, bios: life, and logos: science. Cryobiology is the study of any living organism at any tepmperature that is below zero degrees celsius. Some topics dealing with cryobiology are: cold hardiness and sensitivity in nature, freeze-drying, cryosurgery, frostbite, and cryopreservation. Also doctors and scientists use the information from cryobiology studies to freeze red blood cells, bone marrow, sperm, eggs and embryos, corneas, and skin for medical uses. |
